architectural designs. Some of the Italian architectural buildings are the Catholic cathedral, the former Governor’s palace which was built in 1897 and is a regular retreat for Emperor Haile Selassie, Enda Mariam Orthodox cathedral, St Mary Coptic church, the National Museum and the Al Khulafa al Rashedin market. Also, take a visit to the monument dedicated to Alexander Pushkin; one of the greatest Russians poet. Day 3: Asmara- Keren

Stop At: Former Eritrean Railway Keren Station, Downtown Keren, Keren Eritrea
Head north through the highlands past steep terraces of coffee and orange groves to Keren. The

region is set on a plateau at 1392m surrounded by dusty ochre mountains making it an attractive

town. It is also the Centre of Eritrea’s agricultural community, capital, and administrative center

of Anseba region. The city is located ten miles from Asmara thus a trading center and a natural cross lands to many languages and ethnic groups. You will come across the camel caravans,Turkish styles mosques, and the Eritreans dressed in turbans and caftans reminiscent of the Middle East. Day 4: Keren

Stop At: Keren War Cemetery, S-1 Hwy, Keren Eritrea
Stroll around Keren concentrating on the historical and the architectural areas of the town. Visit the prominent shrine dedicated to St Mary of Da’arit well known as Mariam Da’arit. It is located at the large Baobab cave, which was inaugurated by the fifth Vicar Apostolic Monsignor Touvier in July 1881. Also, take a view of the massive military engagements between the British and the Italians during the Second World War. The sites are more rewarding and worthwhile more so Italian cemetery with its beautiful marked gravestones of the perennial bougainvillea.

Day 2: Asmara city tour

Asmara, the capital of Eritrea is the largest City. Lying at an altitude of 2400 meters above sea level the City has a year round pleasant climate at a range of 18-25 Celsius. Even during the summer time Asmara has an enjoyable climate.

The modern city of Asmara was literally created by the Italians between the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century. The city’s elegant streets and the adjoining promenade are comfortable for day or night walking. The city now accommodates more than 400 art Deco buildings officially recognized by UNESCO. The city maintains its cleanliness, which is commended by many visitors. One of the attractive features of Asmara, in particular and the country in general is that it is the safest place to enjoy. One would feel as if one is in Rome when touring Asmara. Many Italians use to call it “Asmara Bella” .meaning “Asmara the beautiful”.

Day 3: Asmara- Filfil- Massawa

Stop At: Asmara Central Market, Asmara Eritrea
Driving to Massawa through the green belt would take the path primarily towards the Keren road. Then turning towards the east the journey would gradually descend through the much admired filfil- solomuna road, usually called the Green belt. The road initially built by the Italians as a weather road has been turned into a fine tarmac by the Government of Eritrea Visitors may feel as if they are driving above the clouds as they could apparently watch the clouds down the hill. Bird watching is glamorous in Filfil Solomuna Visitors can have a coffee break at Sabur or Medhanit.

Further driving towards the east the descending will continue. Visitors could have a stop-over at the Mai Wu’uii (the famous hot spring) found some 40 kilometers from Massawa. Continuing the journey visitors will witness the desert plains before reaching the port City of Massawa.

Day 4: Massawa City Tour

Massawa enjoys a combination of Turkish and Italian Architects, an apparent indication of the Ottoman and Italian colonial history.

There is, among others, an old Turkish Palace and the Modern Port built by the Titians at the turn of the 20th Century. A more than one thousand years mosque is still standing to this day. A great attraction to many visitors

The famous Gurgusum beach is one of the finest beaches in the world. It is clean and safe. There are no sharks at all. Thus Visitors can enjoy swimming

Using narrow streets your first stop is San Francisco Catholic Church, where you get to walk around and get some local insights before moving on to the famous futuristic Fiat Tagliero service station - designed on the model of an airplane. Your guide will share a short history before you move to your next stop - National Museum of Eritrea, where you get to leave your bikes at the gate and spend some time inside. After, visit Saint Michael Orthodox Church and learn about the Orthodox religion before going to the Italian Cemetery to get information on the historical connection. You'll then head to Space 2000 - a great location to cycle around while you experience the new housing development and have lunch inside the Expo experiencing some delicious local food (not included), get back to the hotel using a different route. 

For the Afternoon tour you meet your guide at (same place) Sunshine Hotel setting off after your guide, starting with Hamsien/Embasoira Hotel one of the oldest hotels in Asmara, cycle pass the Africa Pension, get off the bike at Pushkin Statue and your guide gives you information about it, stop and take photos at the beautiful Maijahjah (Fountain), cycle around with your local expert and enjoy where ever he takes you, stop for cakes at Giardino (not included) and finish off at the hotel.

During your journey your guide will also highlight lesser known spots and you will stop occasionally so you can enjoy refreshments and take photo’s.
